A LEADER grant helped one business achieve its growth potential by supporting the purchase of new equipment and a marquee to increase their sales.
Boycott Farm Shop is owned and run by husband and wife team Richard and Rosemary Hilsdon. One of the big draws to the shop is the tea room, but what with growing visitor numbers and the same limited space in which to house them, they were in need of expansion. Enter a £45,000 LEADER grant.
On high days and holidays it gets very busy,” explains Richard. “It’s great but back in 2010 we were running out of space. The LEADER grant helped us purchase tables and chairs, a new marquee and building material. The tea room now opens onto a new terrace which offers fantastic countryside views.”
Will Dallimore, LEADER Programme Manager, said: “For the LEADER grant to have helped a business expand like this is exactly what the programme is all about and more than compensates for any time spent on the application process. Hopefully other small rural business owners will read this and see their own future growth in the Hilsdon’s story and get in touch with us to start their own LEADER tale.”
LEADER is targeting rural businesses with grants between £5,000 - £180,000 available for eligible projects. Over £5 million will be available between now and 2020 in the Chilterns, Clay Vales and North & West Northamptonshire areas.
